He holds a degree in Surgery and Medicine from Tecnológico de Monterrey. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine with a specialty in cardiology, focusing on transplants and training in interventions at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. He holds a doctoral degree with a specialty in immunology from the University of Chicago. He has been a Professor of Medicine in the cardiology department at Baylor College of Medicine and at Weill Cornell Medical College.
He was the founder of the Transplant Laboratory and a member of the DeBakey Heart Center Council at Houston Methodist Hospital. He is a member of the National System of Researchers, level 3. He currently practices privately as an interventional cardiologist at Tec Salud.
