Dr. Mariel Alfaro is an Assistant Professor in the Biomedical Engineering Program at Tecnológico de Monterrey, Mexico City Campus, where she is part of the Institute of Advanced Materials for Sustainable Manufacturing. She has an interdisciplinary background that includes a Bachelor's Degree in Biomedical Engineering, a Master's Degree in Microelectronics Engineering, and a Doctorate in Computer Science.
Her academic and research work focuses on applied artificial intelligence, intelligent bioinstrumentation, and rehabilitation technologies, with an emphasis on the development of intelligent systems for biomedical and advanced manufacturing applications. She is a member of the National System of Researchers (Level I) and serves as Associate Editor of the IEEE Latin America Transactions journal.
In addition, she is co-founder of ProForms Dynamics, a technology-based company dedicated to the development of prostheses, orthoses, and osteofixation implants for small species, equines, and humans, incubated at the Tecnológico de Monterrey. She currently has three approved patents and three patents pending.
