He has been a professor at Tecnológico de Monterrey in Guadalajara since 2011, currently serving as the associate director of the Department of Sustainable and Civil Technologies and a research professor. He is also the leader of the research axis of the institutional sustainability and climate change plan of Tecnológico de Monterrey and the leader of the Sustainability and Climate Change Laboratory. He was a research associate professor at the University of Leeds in 2023 and is a research associate professor at the University of California, Davis, during the projected period of 2024-2029.
Dr. Gradilla-Hernández is a Level 1 member of the National System of Researchers and specializes in monitoring and evaluating the health of surface water bodies and biotechnological strategies for water and waste treatment, including anaerobic digestion and microalgae-based treatment. He has been the director/co-director of 15 graduate thesis students (M.Sc. and Ph.D.) and is the author of more than 60 journal articles and book chapters indexed in international journals. He has also participated in various projects and articles on educational innovation for sustainable development.
